Line Pipe Global

Ausgabe 16 • Januar 2026

Dear Reader,

Steel is an indispensable material for countless products and therefore of central importance to the German and European economies. It shapes our everyday lives, drives the technologies of the future and is essential for a secure energy supply. Steel is extremely durable in use and can be fully recycled – yet its production is also energy-intensive.

With its SALCOS® project, Salzgitter AG is therefore pursuing the goal of cutting carbon emissions in steel production significantly. You can learn about the scale of this transformation and the benefits it brings us and our customers in the cover story ‘Transformation.’

The diverse potential applications of low-carbon steel tubes and pipes are once again illustrated by the projects featured in this issue. The new SALCOS® steel will have no impact whatsoever on the accustomed Mannesmann quality of our tubes and pipes. We succeeded in demonstrating this back in August 2024, when we produced low-carbon H2ready® steel pipes from an initial SALCOS® coil.

Paving the way for hydrogen transport, our steel pipes for the EWE Pipeline of the Future are also H2ready®. Another forward-looking project is the further expansion of the WarmtelinQ district heating network in South Holland. There you can also find out what a full-body inspection is all about and why it makes our district heating pipes extra safe.

Maximum safety is also always a priority where cable protection is concerned. Following its use in numerous offshore wind farm projects, we are now expanding this area of application to include protection for underground cables. And we are doing so in three different variants. This is yet another example of how we are constantly developing new products and solutions for our customers.

With HFI-welded steel pipes from Mannesmann Line Pipe – and in the foreseeable future, with even greater carbon dioxide reduction thanks to SALCOS® steel.

I hope you find this an inspiring and enjoyable read!
